Abstract

The area represents the geographical framework of the political entity of the state.

A large area differs from a smaller area due of its ability to accommodate the growing population, increase the growth of economic activity, and diversify development projects, thus increasing defensive power.

However, sometimes the large area may be a weak point for the state, represented by the small population and its irregular distribution within the state’s regions, which affects political stability in the event of a political conflict erupting within the state.

This situation applies to the Libyan state, which characterized by a vast geographical area with a small population. This small population is concentrated in specific areas (The Eastern Region and the Western Region) of the Libyan lands that represent the point of the ongoing conflict since 2014.

It is worth noting that what further aggravates the continuation of the conflict is that the conflict management center for each party is located in the farthest edges of the state from the east and west of the northern region, where they are separated by a large geographical area and a small population.

 This case helped in the emergence of two separate governments that increased the severity of the conflict within the Libyan state.
