The Continuity of Family Values Amid Social Change: A Field Sociological Study

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the issue of "The Continuity of Family Values in Light of Social Change" and to determine the extent to which the family can maintain its traditional value system in the face of contemporary transformation challenges and the social media revolution. To achieve the research objectives, a descriptive-analytical approach was utilized, relying on a questionnaire as the primary tool for data collection from a sample of (100) respondents in the city of Zuwara.
The study was based on a theoretical framework combining structural functionalism and symbolic interactionism to explain the mechanisms of family cohesion and adaptation. Statistical analysis results showed that the study instrument possesses a high degree of reliability, with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of (0.712). Furthermore, the results revealed high levels across the dimensions of family values, social change, social media impacts, and future challenges. The data confirmed that traditional family values (such as respecting the elderly, filial piety, cooperation, and strong kinship ties) continue to maintain their robustness and continuity, despite clear shifts in roles and economic and technological transformations. In light of these findings, the study concluded that there is an urgent need to design proactive awareness programs to support the family's capacity for flexible adaptation to modern conditions without compromising its authentic cultural identity.
