Abstract
The study of literary texts written in a foreign language has not been adequately utilized linguistically and culturally, because the prevailing model of teaching literature relies on analyzing the text and historical events without delving into the linguistic and cultural heritage that bears the literary text.
Literature (for most) represents the pinnacle of language, an inaccessible apex. In reality, it is a reflection of contemporary society and therefore offers a comprehensive view of non-literary texts.
What type of literature is most appropriate for teaching French as a foreign language? While we accept that literature offers a path to learning French as a foreign language, we are still left with the question of what type of text should be used in the classroom: novels, poetry, or theater?
This study highlights:
- The role of literature in teaching French as a foreign language classes at university.
- The importance of integrating technology to teach literary texts in an effective and stimulating manner.
- The importance of diversifying teaching methods in analyzing literary texts.
