Abstract

The study aims to identify the general framework of children with autism spectrum disorder and their distinctive features, and to clarify the dimensions of social communication in children with autism spectrum disorder. Therefore, the problem of the study can be summarized in the following main question: What is the role of developing the field of social communication in children with autism spectrum disorder? Reducing his negative behaviors? The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are:



  1. Autism spectrum disorder begins in children at an early age and is accompanied by many negative behaviors among them, the most prominent of which are poor social communication, isolation, and excessive dependence on others to fulfill needs.

  2. Social communication skills are the basic building block upon which the current and future personality of individuals is formed, due to their important role in adapting and interacting with peers and the society surrounding the individual.

  3. Communication disorder in children with autism spectrum disorder includes both verbal communication, represented by weak imitation, simulation, expression, and naming skills, and non-verbal communication, represented by weak body language, facial expressions, imitation, and visual communication.

  4. The autistic child faces difficulty in communicating his thoughts and desires to those around him. He tries to communicate with his surroundings, but he is not proficient in using language appropriately most of the time, in addition to his failure to use alternatives to language such as hand movements and facial expressions.
