Challenges Facing Women in Attaining Leadership Positions in the Academic Field: An Empirical Study at the University of Zawia

The aim of this study was to identify the challenges facing academic women at University of Zawia from assuming leadership positions, and based on the descriptive analytical approach, the study sample consisted of 106 women working within the university’s academic staff. The results of the study showed that the challenges facing women from assuming leadership positions at University of Zawia varied, where scientific and professional challenges ranked first among the challenges, as they came with a medium degree and a relative weight of (0.75). Among these challenges comes the neglect of officials to appreciate the efforts made by women and the lack of programs Developmental to raise the administrative efficiency of women at the forefront of challenges with a high degree and relative weight (0.88), followed by family challenges in the second place with a medium degree and relative weight (0.70). 0.79), followed by organizational challenges with a low degree and relative weight (0.63), then personal challenges with a low degree and relative weight (0.51). The study reached a set of recommendations that would support women leaders in the academic field, represented in creating an appropriate and supportive environment for women and providing more opportunities to benefit from the capabilities and skills of women and to refine and develop their capabilities through increasing the training and qualification of women at University of Zawia.
