Journal Overview

The University of Zawia Journal of Natural Sciences (UZJNS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal published biannually (March & September) by the University of Zawia. Dedicated to advancing research in natural sciences, UZJNS publishes high-quality original work in English across multiple disciplines.

UZJNS serves as a multidisciplinary platform for innovative research in both fundamental and applied natural sciences, including:

Submission Guidelines

1. Author Requirements

  • Originality: Submissions must be unpublished work not under review elsewhere (not more than 20% similarity allowed excluding references).
  • Authorship: All contributors must meet ICMJE authorship criteria.
  • Data Integrity: No fabrication or falsification; raw data may be requested.
  • Ethical Compliance: Human/animal studies require institutional ethical approval.
  • Formatting: Must follow journal template and style guidelines.

2. Peer Review Process

  1. Initial Screening (1-2 weeks): Formatting, scope, and plagiarism check.
  2. Double-Blind Review (4-6 weeks): Evaluation by two or more independent experts.
  3. Editorial Decision: Accept/Revise/Reject with detailed feedback.
  4. Post-Acceptance: Copyediting and author proof approval.

Review Timeline: Authors typically receive initial feedback within 4 weeks. If no communication is received after this period, inquiries may be sent to jns@zu.edu.ly with "Manuscript Status Inquiry - [ID]" in the subject line.

Plagiarism Policy Statement

Our journal upholds a strict policy against plagiarism, which we define as the unauthorized use of another person’s work, ideas, or intellectual property without proper attribution. This includes, but is not limited to, copying text, images, data, or any other content without appropriate citation or acknowledgment of the original source.

To ensure the integrity of published work, all submitted manuscripts are screened using advanced plagiarism detection software. Authors found to have engaged in plagiarism will face consequences, including manuscript rejection and potential restrictions on future submissions.

We urge all authors to adhere to the highest ethical standards in academic publishing and to ensure that all sources are properly credited in their work.

 

Publication Ethics & Policies

UZJNS adheres strictly to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines and maintains the following standards:

  • Prompt correction of errors discovered post-publication
  • Cooperation with investigations of ethical concerns

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Objective, constructive evaluation without personal criticism
  • Maintenance of confidentiality regarding manuscript details
  • Prompt notification of any conflicts of interest
  • Identification of relevant published work not cited

Editorial Responsibilities

  • Fair evaluation based solely on academic merit
  • Protection of author and reviewer confidentiality
  • Transparency in editorial processes and decisions
  • Investigation of ethical concerns using COPE flowcharts

Consequences of Violations

Breaches of ethical standards may result in:

  • Immediate rejection of the submission
  • Retraction of published articles with explanation
  • Notification to authors' institutions or funders
  • Temporary or permanent prohibition from submitting to UZJNS
