Role Conflict and Marital Adjustment of Female Faculty Members “An Analytical Theoretical Study in light 0f Psychological Literature

Abstract

The study aimed to provide a theoretical treatment of the concepts of role conflict and marital adjustment among female faculty members at the university, through a review of sociological and psychological literature and an analysis of the theoretical frameworks that fully explain both concepts. The research addresses the notion of role conflict, its definition, manifestations, sources, the theories that have examined it, and previous studies. It also discusses marital adjustment by clarifying its concept, manifestations, obstacles, the theories that interpret it, and related prior research. The researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical method based on reviewing and analyzing previous studies and literature. Among the most important findings of the study is that role conflict and marital adjustment are highly significant variables in the lives of female faculty members, with a negative inverse relationship between role conflict and marital adjustment. The results indicate that marital adjustment tends to be lower among working women in general, and among female faculty members in particular. Furthermore, the level of role conflict can serve as a predictor of future marital adjustment. The study recommends conducting further research on this topic, as role conflict is considered one of the most critical obstacles to marital adjustment, affecting the smooth course of marital life
