This study investigated social media use and its implications for improving the mental image of female student teachers at the Faculty of Education, Zawia University. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach. The population comprised 296 eighth-semester female students enrolled in various academic specializations during the Spring 2026 semester. A sample of 150 students, representing 50.67% of the population, participated. Data were collected using a 61-item questionnaire covering two dimensions: social media use (25 items) and mental image (36 items). Face validity was established, and the instrument demonstrated good reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.824).
The findings indicated moderate levels of social media use (M = 3.26, SD = 0.42) and mental image (M = 3.25, SD = 0.40). A statistically significant positive relationship was also found between social media use and mental image, suggesting that purposeful and effective engagement with social media may contribute to a more positive image of female student teachers.
The study recommends strengthening the academic and professional use of digital platforms at the faculty, encouraging students to share educational content through their social media accounts, and organizing digital campaigns highlighting their achievements and talents. It also recommends establishing online networks connecting student teachers with graduates and experienced teachers to facilitate knowledge exchange, support professional development, and enhance students’ professional identity and social image
