Self-awareness and its Relationship With Optimism Among University Students in Light of Viktor Frankl's Meaning Theory

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of self-awareness and the differences based on gender and academic level among the research sample.  The level of optimism, and the differences based on gender and academic level among the research sample. To reveal the correlation relationship between self-awareness and optimism.The research was limited to the students of the College of Petroleum Engineering for the 'Spring 2024' semester, totaling 1,230 students, and the research sample consisted of (110) of them, including (61) male students and (49) female students. The study used the Self-wareness Scale by Qaraghouli (2011) and the Optimism Scale by Magdy El-Desouky. Statistical methods such as arithmetic means, standard deviations, t-test, correlation coefficient, and one-way variance analysis were used to process the data. The results showed the following: The level of self-awareness was high among the research sample. The sample had a high level of optimism. There were no statistically significant differences attributed to gender or academic level. There was a statistically significant correlation between self-awareness and optimism.
