Abstract
The research aims to study the role of social and psychological services provided at Al-Wafa Home for the Care of the Elderly in enhancing their self-esteem. The researcher relied on the descriptive method, which is based on collecting and analyzing facts, and the research community included 19 social and psychological specialists working at the home.
The results showed that the most prominent psychological services provided to the residents included alleviating anxiety and stress, encouraging them to maintain continuous communication with their peers, and expressing their feelings, with a rate of 100%. It also appeared that giving the elderly the opportunity to share their experiences is considered a basic service at a rate of 94.7%. The results confirmed the staff's keenness to encourage residents not to isolate themselves at a rate of 89.5%. The research revealed that conducting comprehensive assessments of the elderly is considered an important service at a rate of 84.2%. It also showed that preparing the elderly to communicate with their relatives and coordinating regular visits contributes to increasing their self-esteem at a rate of 78.9%. Finally, it was found that raising the elderly's awareness of the psychological changes they may experience represents a service provided at a rate of 68.4%.
The research concluded that the services provided directly contribute to enhancing their self-esteem and help them to For social adaptation and integration, and to reduce feelings of isolation and withdrawal, which emphasizes the necessity of integrating these services within public social welfare policies.
