Abstract

The current research aims to identify the relationship between cognitive distortions and internet addiction among students of the Faculty of Arts, and to determine whether there are statistically significant differences according to gender and academic specialization. To answer the research questions, the researchers applied the cognitive distortions scale and the internet addiction scale. The researchers used the descriptive correlational approach. The number of participants in the research was (92) male and female regular students at the Faculty of Arts at Al-Asmariya Islamic University. The research results concluded that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between cognitive distortions and internet addiction among the sample members. That is, the lower the level of cognitive distortions, the lower the internet addiction. The results also indicated that there are no statistically significant differences according to the gender variable (male/female) and academic specialization on the cognitive distortions scale. The results also indicated the presence of statistically significant differences according to the gender variable. (Males/Females) on the Internet Addiction Scale, in favor of males. There are statistically significant differences depending on the variable of specialization on the Internet Addiction Scale
