The Role of Universities in Building a Knowledge Society

The concept of the knowledge society ha emerged as a central notion in contemporary socia thought as a result of the transition from an indu economy to a knowledge-based ec transformati highlighted by the sociologi Daniel Bell in his discussion of the post-industrial society. In recent decades, concept has gained increasing attention, particula through the efforts of international organization especially UNESCO, in promoting knowledge as a key driver of development and progress. This study is based on the following research problem: What role can universities play in building a knowledge society and promoting knowledge-based development in contemporary societies? The study aims t analyze the role of universities in generating knowledge, contributing to the development of a knowledge society, and preparing individuals intellectually to meet the demands of the modern era. The study adopts the descriptive-analytical method by examining relevant literature and previous studies on knowledge society and higher education. The results indicate that universities repr fundamental pillar in building a knowledge society t knowledge production, dissemination, and the of individuals’ intellectual capacities. The study also highlight the importance of promoting academic freed freedom of expression within universities as ess conditions for fostering creativity and knowledge production.
