Abstract

This study addresses the topic of occupational health and safety programs and their impact on achieving sustainable development, with a field study conducted at the Zawia Oil Refining Company in Libya.

The study revealed that the problem lies in the limited ability of the company’s employees to use occupational health and safety programs in the correct scientific context while performing their tasks and duties. This is due to the belief and inclination of most employees that they are capable of completing their work without relying on these programs, which is a result of their lack of cultural awareness and the scarcity of health education and awareness programs.

The significance of this study stems from the importance of adopting and utilizing occupational health and safety programs in public institutions with engineering and technical specializations, which the state relies on for comprehensive development, increasing national income, and how to benefit from these programs in preserving the genetic heritage of human resources in the future. This will help maintain their full health and well-being, contributing to the creation of a disease-free society in Libya, by preserving the young workforce in the company with high-quality technical specializations and a strong scientific and health culture.

This study relied on both descriptive and quantitative analysis in examining the phenomenon. A questionnaire was used as the primary tool for data collection. The study sample consisted of a simple random sample of 100 individuals selected from the total workforce of the company under study, encompassing various professional specializations and job levels. After subjecting the collected data to statistical analysis using SPSS to test the formulated hypotheses, a set of significant findings was reached.
